Publishing Your Kindle Book Online
One of the most popular opportunities for writers today is to turn their book manuscript into an e-book they can publish and distribute online.
Amazon offers perhaps the best vehicle to do this with its Kindle Direct Publishing program - a program our webmaster has utilized himself.
Navigating Amazon's program is fairly straightforward, but may be much easier to use with a bit of coaching.
These are are main task areas involved in publishing your book as a Kindle Edition:
- Familiarize yourself with the overall program, including copyright steps
- Create a free Amazon account, and enroll in the KDP program
- Make sure your existing manuscript is in a compatible word processing format
- Select the type of Kindle Book appropriate for your manuscript - conventional book, textbook, kids' book, or comic book options are available
- Input or convert your manuscript content into selected Kindle Book format, using available desktop software or online conversion tool as applicable
- Review and choose among publishing options - in addition to free Kindle Edition creation, Amazon also offers an on-demand paperback publishing option
- Enter descriptive information about your book
- Once you've made your selections - Publish! - Amazon's KDP program by the way facilitates getting your book listed with an ASIN or ISBN number
- Select among a variety of options to market and promote your book, and follow distribution and sales reports available to you as a published Kindle Book author.
Fees for online book publishing assistance generally follow a flat rate schedule of $40 per hour, prorated, but may be negotiated to follow a fixed project budget.
