OCR Scanning and Image-to-Text Conversions

Optical character recognition is a technology that enables the conversion of an image file into text that you can edit as a word processing file.

When you have a report or document in form of a photocopy for example, OCR conversion generates a file that picks up the alphanumeric characters in the scanning process.

This can be very valuable if you need to edit or manipulate the substantive content of the item - the idea is to save the trouble of retyping the whole item from a visual image.

OCR conversions are not perfect. Depending on the quality, formatting and font choice of the image you want to convert, some amount of time and effort will be required to edit the output of the OCR scan for accurate representation of the original material.

In these cases, sophisticated search and replace programs sometimes can save time in editing, reformatting and touch-up.

In the case of lengthy reports or documents though, using these resources along with a page feed printer for scanning can make such projects worthwhile by reducing the work involved considerably.

Most home printers either don't have a document feed, or have one which handles only small numbers of pages well. Scanning in a large document or large number of pictures also can be time consuming if you're not in practice doing it, or if home conditions are prone to interruption.

Fees for scanning project assignments, tutoring, or help in setting up your own OCR resources follow a flat rate schedule of $40 per hour, prorated.
