Attractive Screen Savers and Wallpapers - Theme Set Pictures for Your Computer

What happened to all those nice Windows wallpapers?

One of the first things I noticed when my computers upgraded to Windows 10 was that most of the high quality pictures available for my computer desktop had disappeared.

Earlier versions of Windows had come with an extensive library of high resolution pictures. When Windows 10 came along, I had to go into Microsoft and download those pictures one at a time.

Up until now.

This month I was able to acquire large library of high quality photographs and images very similar to the variety that used to come with Windows, maybe even better.

At this time I have a collection of approximately 1000 desktop pictures that can be incorporated in the Pictures folder on any computer. These are widescreen pictures that display nicely on most computer monitors in use today.

I have these organized in general "Theme" folders. I think the most popular among friends and neighbors around here will be the "Animals" "Cars" and "Nature" themes. (Other themes include Anime, Celebrities, Computer, Creative & Graphics, Games, Movies & TV, Music, Space, and other General theme varieties.)

It's possible to set up your computer either to show a single background picture or to rotate pictures as a full-size slideshow.

If you would like to add some or all of these to your Windows collection, they take up only about half a gig of space and will easily load onto almost any hard drive without any space limits. Most computers will load these pictures in a short amount of time.

Next time we see each other for an appointment, simply indicate if you would like to add these to your Pictures and I'll bring along what I need to copy them over for you.

UPDATE 2018

Microsoft has made it much easier now to find and add beautiful color picture slideshows to your desktop.

They have almost 300 sets of 1-2 dozen picture sets covering a great variety of themes and color schemes.

These "theme sets" can be downloaded and installed quickly.

Once installed, your desktop with all its icons will have a rotating slideshow of background pictures that make using your computer extra pleasant and relaxing.

Themes range from animal favorites to nature & scenery to city-scapes to regions of the country & world, and cover a wide variety personal and pet interests - literally, something for everyone!

To view the wide range of picture sets available:

Go to the desktop on your computer

Right-click in the open area of your desktop to the right of the icons

Left-click on Personalize

See left-hand column area and left-click on Themes

Left-click on "Get more themes in Microsoft Store"

From here you can scroll down a full range of picture sets. Left-click on any one that interests you.

You'll then see a descriptive screen about that set of pictures. Click on the blue "GET" button.

It will just take a minute or so for the "theme pack" to download. Usually it will be saved in your Downloads folder.

You can either double-click the themepack file, or click on the blue "LAUNCH" button on the Store page.

This will take you back to your Windows personalization screen where you select the newly downloaded theme listed, and this will activate it as a slideshow for your desktop.

(If the download fails on the first attempt, usually a second try will automatically launch. If you get a screen response saying you need to log into your Microsoft account, but don't have one, this can be remedied through User Accounts.)
