Email Display and Contacts (Address Book) Issues

Email providers recently have been making a lot of changes in display of how people's email and contacts pages are arranged and displayed.

New Gmail Roll-Out

This week Google is scheduled to change the Gmail display that users usually see when they go for messages. Most people who have seen a glimpse of the new layout don't like it. If you happen to go in for your Gmail messages and things have moved around a bit, give me a holler and I can help restore you back to the original more familiar format.

Email Contacts / Address Book Changes

Several email providers have made changes in how you access your "Contacts" or "Address Book" list. There are too many different providers to cover every company's changes here. However, "losing your contacts" is not very common. It's just tedious sometimes finding where they are when your provider redesigns its pages.

Saving a Backup of Your Contacts

This is a good idea for everybody. Most email programs and websites have Contacts "Import" and "Export" features which you can use to make a file of your contacts information on your own computer, and even tweek it to print out a hardcopy.

Yahoo Lockouts

Several customers I know have gotten locked out of their Yahoo mail recently and found their passwords not working. Some have been able to regain access but others have not. Those who regained access typically had taken time to set up a phone number or alternate email address to "reset" their passwords. An excellent precautionary step!

Contacts Clean-Up

Pruning your Contacts list of junk entries or duplicates is a good housecleaning task to do now and then. There are several features in most email program that make this easier, but it's easy to procrastinate. One common reason for junk entries is misspellings.

Losing Half Your Message When Printing

If you're trying to print an email message, usually the normal icon for printing a webpage will not work. Usually there is a special print icon or a special place to click to print only the message and all of the message intact. Location varies among email programs and webpages, but once you get familiar with the right icon it's smooth sailing.

Navigation Problems

If your screen displays too big, you may be having problems finding the "click point" to save or send something. If your screen displays to small, obviously it can be hard to read what's in front of you. This is why many email users have learned to find and use the "Zoom" feature. "Zoom" adjusts your screen to the size that suits you.
