Google Contacts and Gmail Display Changes effective 2018-2022

Google and Gmail have changed the default display and settings for their users. Here is some info on what's happening and what to do.

Google recently has made two changes in Gmail display and Contacts navigation.

Some people may like the new design, but so far most of the feedback I get about the new display and navigation is negative and confused.

Fortunately there are clear solutions to both changes.

CHANGE IN YOUR GMAIL DISPLAY

Google has changed its webpage design for getting your Gmail messages.

They've moved things around so that you can't things in the same places as before. New icon placements are confusing, and the message list display simply is not as smooth to scroll down as before.

In brief, users are finding the new layout just weird, slow, and hard to focus.

There is a solution.

Go to the gray gear-shaped icon in the upper right corner - it should appear to the right of where the number of messages is listed. Click the gear icon and the pop-down display will give you the option to return to the classic display.

Click "Go Back to Classic Gmail" and your Gmail page display will return to the page layout that you're already familiar with using.

CHANGE IN GOING TO YOUR CONTACTS

Google also recently changed how you navigate to view your Contacts. You no longer go through the upper left red triangle by "Gmail".

Now instead you go through the upper right gray-colored 3-by-3-dot icon on your Gmail or Google page.

Click on that icon, and find the white-on-blue icon for "Contacts" among the other colorful icons on the pop-down display. (You may need to click "More" at the bottom of that pop-down to find it.)

Click on the "Contacts" icon and it will take you to the following web address to see your Gmail contacts: https://contacts.google.com/

You don't have to go down this path every time.

Once you view the contacts page on your browser screen, you can add it to your Favorites Bar or Bookmarks Bar and use the Bar shortcut to go directly there in the future.
